Amsterdam Opens Gambling Harm Support Center Funded by Prevention Fund
A new support center for people affected by gambling harm has opened on Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. The initiative, led by the National Information Center for Gambling Players (Slicks), is fully funded by the Gambling Addiction Prevention Fund (VPF). The project focuses on providing accessible help and guidance to residents of Amsterdam dealing with gambling-related issues.
What Does the Support Center Offer?
The center is easily accessible and open to everyone. It provides:
- Advice and information from peers and experts with personal experience.
- Workshops and awareness sessions on responsible gambling.
- Individual counseling programs to address gambling addiction.
Problem gamblers can share their stories at the center and explore next steps, such as seeking professional help.
Evaluation After One Year
The project is currently a pilot. After one year, it will be evaluated to determine if it has achieved its goals. Based on the results, a decision will be made on whether to expand the initiative to other locations.
Funded by the Gambling Addiction Prevention Fund
The support center is made possible by the Gambling Addiction Prevention Fund, established in 2021. This fund is financed through an additional gambling tax imposed on operators of high-risk gambling activities, such as online casinos. The Gambling Authority manages the fund and uses it to prevent and reduce gambling addiction.
